Description
Abstract: This article analyses the results of a scientific and practical study regarding the security of monastic complexes — designated as immovable cultural property in Bulgaria — utilizing a field-tested methodology for fire risk assessment. First, it outlines the core elements of the fire protection management system for cultural assets. Second, the article presents a comprehensive risk assessment methodology based on eight groups of indicators, categorized into variables (unmanageable), controllable (manageable) factors, and neutral conditions. Third, drawing from empirical survey data, key findings are identified and strategic recommendations are proposed — including the development of an “inclusive safety culture” and the integration of voluntary formations — to enhance the fire safety and overall security of these heritage sites.
