Description
The paper presents the most topical issues in food security in modern world presenting it as a critical pillar in national and international security. Considering the four main dimensions of food security – availability, access, utilization and sustainability, some of the global initiatives are analyzed and presented. Special emphasis is put on global challenges as climate change and extreme weather events, demographic pressure, geopolitics and disrupted supply chains, economic factors, technology and innovation, sustainability and ecology. The link to environmental security and other interrelated areas of human security is underlined through the example of modern agricultural systems – problems and trends in their future development in the context of SDGs. Main discussion points and conclusions outline potential solutions to the most pressing problems emphasizing the impact of technology and innovation development but also the significance of the social and cultural aspects.
